In my seventh grade year is when I realized I was crazy for cars. My neighbor drove home with a brand new Corvette and it was my passion from there. Of course, when my class was taking career tests to fit us into a future job around that same time, I paid no attention to my results (which was usually sales consultant or lawyer) because I knew I wanted to be an engineer. That stuck with me throughout my life and now I am majoring in mechanical engineering at one of Michigan’s leading engineering schools, University of Detroit Mercy.

Growing up in the "Motor City", I always attended the auto show and while most kids my age wanted to sit in all the cars because they looked cool, I wanted to study the design of the cars and what made them look good or bad.  It has always been a passion of mine and I, from time to time, go to the super car dealers around my town and look at the newest designs and technology put out there by the top of the line automotive designers.

Why Engineering?

I always attended blue ribbon schools for grades k-12.  They prepared me for my college education and now I am attending University of Detroit Mercy for my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering.  Due to my love for cars, I decided on this major so I can get a career working in the automotive industry and work more closely with what I love best.  Detroit Mercy, being one of the leading engineering schools in Michigan, I have no doubt will prepare me for the workplace both socially and technically.  Currently, I am taking my first year of engineering courses and learning the fundamentals of mathematics in regards to how it relates to the mechanical machinery.

My Ideal Future In Engineering

In the future, I want to have a career as a mechanical engineer and be working for one of the big three motor companies.  Staying in metro Detroit is something I would like to do because Detroit is my home and has many opportunities for engineers.  I want to work hard to afford the cars I have always dreamed of having because they are what started me in the direction of engineering.  One day I want a car that I worked on to be in the North American International Auto Show, that would be my proudest moment.
